WARNING - Engine exhaust can be dangerous!
Engine exhaust can be extremely dangerous. If you ever smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open the windows immediately.
- Do not breathe exhaust fumes. Exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that can cause loss of consciousness and death by asphyxiation.
- Make sure the exhaust system does not leak. The exhaust system should be inspected whenever the vehicle is raised for an oil change or any other purpose. If you hear a change in exhaust sound or you hit something that damages the underside of the vehicle, have the exhaust system inspected as soon as possible by an authorized Kia dealer.
- Do not run the engine in an enclosed area. Idling the engine in your garage, even with the garage door open, is a dangerous practice. Never run the engine in a garage longer than necessary to start the engine and drive the vehicle out.
- Avoid prolonged engine idling when people are inside the vehicle. If prolonged idling is necessary with people inside the vehicle, always do so in an open area with the air intake set to "Fresh" and the fan running at one of the higher speeds so that fresh air is drawn inside. If you must drive with the rear cargo door open because you are carrying items that make this necessary: Close all windows. Open the side vents. Set the air intake control to "Fresh", the airflow control to "Floor" or "Face", and the fan to one of the higher speeds. To ensure the ventilation system works properly, make sure the air intakes in front of the windshield are free of snow, ice, leaves, or other obstructions.
