Recommended Lubricants and Capacities

To help achieve proper engine and transmission performance and durability, use only lubricants of the proper quality.

Proper lubricants also contribute to engine efficiency, which results in improved fuel economy.

These lubricants and fluids are recommended for use in your vehicle.

*1: See the recommended SAE viscosity grades on the following page.

*2 Engine oils labeled Energy Conserving Oil are now available. Along with other additional benefits, they help save fuel by reducing the amount of fuel required to overcome engine friction. Often these improvements are difficult to measure in everyday driving, but over time they can offer significant cost and energy savings.

*3 If API Service SM or ACEA A5 engine oil is not available in your country, you may use API Service SL or ACEA A3.

CAUTION

Always clean the area around the oil filler cap, drain plug or dipstick before checking or draining lubricant. This is especially important in dusty or sandy areas and when driving on unpaved roads. Cleaning the filler cap and dipstick area prevents dirt and sand from entering the engine and other mechanisms, which could be damaged.

Engine oil viscosity (thickness) affects fuel economy and operation in cold weather (engine starting and engine oil flow). Lower viscosity engine oils may provide better fuel economy and cold-weather performance; however, higher viscosity engine oils are necessary for adequate lubrication in hot weather.

Using oils of any viscosity other than the recommended one may cause engine damage.

When selecting oil, consider the temperature range in which your vehicle will be operated until the next oil change. Refer to the viscosity chart to select the recommended oil viscosity.

1. For best fuel economy, engine oil of SAE viscosity grade 5W-30 (API SM/ILSAC GF-4) is recommended. However, if this engine oil is not available in your country, select engine oil using the engine oil viscosity chart.

Please note that you must provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to verify coverage during your call. The VIN can be found on the driver's side dashboard, on the driver's door pillar, and on the registration or insurance card.

Kia works with a network of more than 17,000 roadside assistance providers. If you accidentally run out of fuel, need a battery replacement, or need help changing a tire, a Kia Roadside Assistance representative will dispatch someone to deliver a small amount of fuel, replace a flat tire with an inflated spare, or jump-start the battery so you can continue to your destination. We have access to a network of more than 10,000 locksmiths who can help you if you lock your Kia keys inside the vehicle.

If a mechanical malfunction makes your vehicle undriveable and the repair is covered under warranty, a Kia Roadside Assistance representative will arrange for your vehicle to be towed to the nearest Kia dealer or an alternative service location.

Your vehicle must be accessible to our towing vehicle, as determined by our driver, in order to receive this service.

If a Kia dealer or alternative service center is not available in a particular location, Kia will work with a reputable local service provider to ensure that you receive prompt service. Warranty repairs are performed at no cost to you.

✽ NOTICE

Roadside assistance benefits are not available for any Kia vehicle that has ever been or must be issued a "salvage" title or similar "branded" title under the law of any state, or that has been declared a "total loss" or equivalent by a financial institution or insurance company.

Trip Interruption

Trip interruption reimbursement benefits are provided if the breakdown occurs more than 150 miles from your home and the repair requires more than 24 hours. Reasonable compensation is included for meals, lodging, or rental car expenses. Trip interruption coverage is limited to US $100 per day, subject to a maximum three-day limit per incident.

To obtain pre-authorization, you must contact the Kia Roadside Assistance Center before incurring any expenses. After the Kia Roadside Assistance Center approves the trip interruption, they will assist you with the necessary arrangements. Deductibles, expenses, and claims paid by your insurance company or other providers are not eligible for reimbursement.

Fleet vehicles are excluded from trip interruption reimbursement under the Kia trip interruption policy.

Registering Your Vehicle in a Foreign Country

If you plan to register your vehicle in a foreign country, you must confirm that it complies with the regulations of that country. Even if you successfully register your vehicle in another country, you may encounter the following problems, and therefore you should consider them:

1. The fuel specified for your vehicle may not be available. If fuel other than the specified fuel is used, it may cause damage to the engine, fuel injection system, and other fuel-related components, which may not be covered under your new vehicle limited emissions warranty.

2. Therefore, we must state clearly that when you leave the country in which you purchased your new Kia and register it in another country, problems resulting from the use of fuel other than the specified fuel are not covered by the warranty. Because vehicles similar to yours may not be sold in the new country of registration, replacement parts, service methods, and tools required to service and repair your vehicle may not be available.

Even if vehicles like yours are sold there, mechanical requirements set by the government may differ sufficiently from those of the country of purchase to cause additional problems.

3. In the area where you plan to register your vehicle, you may also encounter difficulties obtaining service in a foreign country for a number of reasons.

In addition, we cannot accept responsibility for problems resulting from unsatisfactory service or lack of service outside the United States.

Electrical Equipment

The electrical system of your vehicle is designed to operate under all reasonably expected operating conditions. However, before any additional electrical equipment is installed in your vehicle, consult an authorized Kia dealer to ensure that you do not void your warranty.

Certain electrical equipment or the method of its installation may adversely affect the operation of your vehicle, including systems such as the engine management system, audio system, and charging system, and thus potentially void your warranty in whole or in part.

We are not responsible for any expenses you may incur, or for any malfunctions of your vehicle or any of its components or systems, that may result from the installation of additional electrical equipment not supplied or recommended for installation by Kia.

Installation of a Mobile Two-Way Radio System

If a mobile two-way radio system is installed incorrectly or a high-power type of system is used excessively, other electronic systems may be adversely affected. To avoid damage to your vehicle, consult an authorized Kia dealer regarding proper equipment and installation.

Kia vehicles are designed and manufactured to meet or exceed all applicable safety standards.

However, for your safety, we strongly recommend that you read and follow all instructions in this Owner's Manual, especially the information under the headings "WARNING," "CAUTION," and "NOTICE."

If, after reading this manual, you have questions about the operation of your vehicle, safety concerns, or defects, please contact your Kia by toll-free telephone

Reporting Safety Defects

If you believe that your vehicle has a defect which could cause a crash or could cause injury or death, you should immediately inform the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in addition to notifying Kia Motors America, Inc.

If NHTSA receives similar complaints, it may open an investigation, and if it finds that a safety defect exists in a group of vehicles, it may order a recall and remedy campaign. However, NHTSA cannot become involved in individual problems between you, your dealer, or Kia Motors America, Inc.

To contact NHTSA, you may call the Vehicle Safety Hotline toll-free at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153); go to http://www.safercar.gov; or write to:
