Parking Brake Shoe
  1. Install the shoe hold-down pin (A) and spring (B) by pushing and turning the spring.
  2. Install the lever assembly (D) and the upper return spring (C).
  3. Install the adjuster assembly (B) and the lower return spring (A).
  4. Install the hub assembly. (Refer to Drive Shaft and Axle - "Rear Hub - Carrier")
  5. Install the parking brake cable (B), then install the clip (A).
  6. Install the rear brake disc, then adjust the rear brake shoe clearance.
    1. Remove the plug from the disc.
    2. Turn the adjuster gear with a screwdriver until the drum stops, then back it off 5 notches in the opposite direction.
  7. Install the brake caliper assembly. (Refer to Brake System - "Rear Disc Brake")
  8. Install the tire and wheel after installing the cap on the disc.
  9. If the parking brake shoes or brake disc are replaced, perform the brake shoe break-in procedure.
    1. When using the parking brake with 69 N (7 kgf, 15 lbf) of force, drive the vehicle 500 meters (0.31 mile) at a speed of 60 km/h.
    2. Repeat the above procedure more than two times.
    3. Must hold on a 30% grade.
