Rear Differential Carrier Assembly

The following special tools are used to measure gear height.

Install the special tool lock nut (A), pinion oil seal (B), front pinion bearing (C), inner bearing (D), and special tool support housing (E) as follows. Lock nut (A) tightening torque: 88.3~137 N·m

Place the main body (A) on the differential case (B).

The bearing cap (B) is installed on the main body (A).

Tightening torque: 54.0~64 N·m

Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the carrier (A) and the bearing cap (B). Then select the inner bearing adjusting shim.

Install the selected inner bearing adjusting shim (A).

Using SST (09530-3T100), install the pinion bearing inner race (A).

Using SST (09530-3T100), install the pinion bearing outer race.

Using a round pipe (A), press in the rear pinion bearing (B).

Install the pinion bearing spacer (B) onto the drive pinion (A).

Using a round pipe (A), press in the front bearing (B).

Install the pinion oil seal using SST (09530-3T600).

Using SST (09530-3T300), install the pinion lock nut (A).

Tightening torque: 186.33 ~ 441 N·m

Tighten the lock nut. Standard (pinion bearing preload): 92.22~179 N·m

Using SST (09453-3B200), install the front/rear bearing (A).

Install the drive pinion carrier and ring gear.

Tightening torque: 137.3~157 N·m

Install the left and right side bearing outer races (A) onto the differential carrier.

Hold the left and right side bearing outer races (A) with both hands and install them onto the differential carrier.

Insert the left and right adjusting shims between the side bearings and the carrier. Then install the bearing caps (A) with the marks aligned.

Tightening torque: 53.9~64 N·m

Adjust the adjusting shims and confirm the backlash standard.

Standard: 0.10 ~ 0.15 mm (0.004~0.006 in.)

Adjust the ring gear backlash.

Standard: 0 ~ 0.05 mm (0 ~ 0.002 in.)

Measure the preload. Standard pinion bearing preload: 0.25~0.8 N·m

Apply sealant (A) to the rear cover surface.

Sealant: MP 721-40

Install the rear differential cover (A).

Tightening torque: 39.2~49 N·m

Install the drain plug (A) and filler plug (B). Filler plug: 39.2~59 N·m Drain plug: 49.0~69 N·m

Using SST (09530-2W100, 09231-H1100), install the left and right side oil seals.

Install the rear differential assembly on the vehicle and fill with oil. Specified lubricant: API GL-5 hypoid gear oil, SAE 75W/90 (SHELL SPIRAX X or equivalent). Oil quantity: 0.53 ± 0.1 L (The differential oil level should be between the bottom of the filler hole and a point approximately 8 mm below the filler hole.)
