Installation of Child Restraint Systems (CRS)

~1min read

WARNING

Before installing a child restraint system, you must always: Read the manufacturer's information on child restraint systems and restraints.

If you ignore warnings or instructions, you risk serious injury or even death in an accident.

WARNING

If the vehicle head restraint interferes with the proper installation of a child restraint system, remove the head restraint or adjust the seat position, or remove the head restraint completely.

After selecting the correct child restraint system for your child and checking that the child restraint system is in good condition, there are three main steps to perform for proper installation.

  • Secure the child restraint system properly in the vehicle. All child restraint systems must be secured either with the vehicle seat belt (lap belt or lap/shoulder belt) or with the ISOFIX system or the support leg for securing.
  • Make sure the child restraint system is securely fixed. After installation, push the child restraint system in each direction to check that it is firmly secured. A child restraint system secured with the seat belt must be installed as tightly as possible. However, it should still have a certain amount of expected lateral movement. When installing a child restraint system, adjust the vehicle seat and backrest (up and down or forward and backward) so that your child is comfortable in the installed child restraint system.
  • Secure the child in the child restraint system. Make sure that the child is restrained exactly according to the child restraint manufacturer's instructions and that the restraint straps of the child restraint system are fastened.

DANGER

A child restraint system in a closed vehicle can become very hot. Check the temperature of the seat and buckles before placing the child in the child restraint system to avoid burns.
