AUTO (Automatic) Operation

The rain sensor, located on the upper end of the windshield, detects the amount of precipitation and controls the wiping cycle at the appropriate interval. The greater the rain, the faster the wiper operates. When the rain stops, the wipers stop.
To change the speed setting, turn the speed control knob (1).
If the wiper switch is set to AUTO when the ignition is turned on, the wiper will operate once to perform a system self-check. Set the wiper to the OFF position when the wipers are not in use.
CAUTION
When the ignition key is on and the wiper switch is set to AUTO, observe the following precautions to avoid injury to your hands or other body parts:
- Do not touch the upper edge of the windshield near the rain sensor.
- Do not wipe the upper end of the windshield with a wet or damp cloth.
- Do not press on the windshield.
CAUTION
When washing the vehicle, set the wiper switch to the OFF position to stop the automatic wiper operation. The wiper may operate and be damaged if the switch is in the AUTO position while washing the vehicle. Do not remove the cover of the sensor located at the top of the passenger side windshield. Damage to system parts may occur and may not be covered by your vehicle warranty.
When starting the vehicle in winter, set the wiper switch to the OFF position. Otherwise, the wipers may operate and ice may damage the windshield wiper blades. Always remove all snow and ice and defrost the windshield properly before operating the wipers.
