Description
The clutch switch is connected to the clutch pedal and sends the clutch operating status to the ECM. When the clutch pedal is depressed during driving, the engine load changes from the unloaded condition. However, the ECM regards the vehicle as loaded because the VSS signal is still input. Therefore, the ECM controls the unloaded engine with a condition suitable for a loaded engine. As a result, optimal fuel injection control is not performed, engine speed becomes unstable and smoke is generated. Clutch operation is detected by the clutch switch signal. This signal allows the ECM to cope with the instantaneous change of load condition. In addition, the clutch switch signal is used to determine the gear engaged based on vehicle speed and engine speed.
