Description

Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFLS) AFLS (Adaptive Front-lighting System) is a headlamp aiming control system that takes into account both the steering wheel angle and the vehicle speed to aim the headlamps at an angle providing better visibility at night. Changing conditions make the beam pattern of a moving vehicle a kaleidoscope. AFLS Component
  1. Input section: Receives information from the speed sensor, height sensor, and other sensors related to vehicle condition.
  2. Control part (AFLS unit): controls the output part by analyzing/evaluating the input signal.
  3. Output part: controls the low beam up/down and left/right lateral optimal beam pattern by the output control signal of the AFLS unit.
Main function of AFLS
Contents Description
1 Dynamic Bending Light
(Swivel)
  • Providing the optimal beam pattern on curved roads
  1. Improved visibility on curved roads
  2. Low Beam Left/Right Actuation
2 Automatic Leveling
(Leveling)
  • Low beam compensation according to vehicle inclination
  1. Compensation according to static condition (load)
  2. Compensation for dynamic conditions (sudden start, sudden stop)
3 Fail-safe
  • Fail-safe Response upon Detection of System Failure and Malfunction
  1. Signal/Communication Error Detection for Swivel
  2. Signal/communication error detection for leveling
  3. System Failure Detection

Advantages of AFLS
Contents Description
1 Improved Stability
  • Guaranteed Visibility on Curved Roads
  • Depending on the vehicle speed/steering angle, the swivel/leveling motor is automatically controlled to provide the optimal beam pattern.
  • Fail-safe response application for the driver on the opposite side of the road → In case of communication error, automatically return to the initial position of the swivel actuator.
2 Improved Convenience
  • AFLS Operation Selectable by Driver (AFLS Off Switch)
  • Provides a diagnostic function to detect system failure and malfunction and check data information (using diagnostic equipment).
  • Reduced wiring harness through the application of CAN/LIN communication in the vehicle.
  • Fun driving function: low beam swivel → Improved driver pride.

Operation

AFLS Unit (A) Component

[Left-hand drive]

[Right-hand drive]

  1. General system initialization; when the engine signal is received (AFLS ECU, leveling/swivel motor), AFLS operates normally only when the automatic light is on. Provides AFLS tell-tale function ("AFLS" indication on the instrument panel). In case of system failure, the "AFLS" indicator on the instrument panel illuminates.
  2. Main function: Swivel function, leveling function, height sensor signal processing, control of the shield drum to change the beam pattern, control of the static swivel light.
  3. General: Communicates with the AFLS unit via LIN protocol. Reliable interference control. Does not operate outside the rated voltage range.
  4. Main function and rating: low beam left/right actuator. Fail-safe function: if a fault or system failure is detected, move to a safe position.
  5. Main specification: communicates with the AFLS module via LIN protocol; reliable interference control; does not operate outside the rated voltage range.
  6. Main function and rating: low beam up/down actuator. Fail-safe function: if a fault or system failure is detected, move to a safe position.
  7. The height sensor (leveling sensor) connecting the body and suspension measures the inclination information depending on the load. A vehicle with steel suspension transmits the inclination signal to the AFLS ECU via a hard-wired connection.
  8. Rating: Rated voltage: 5 V ± 5%
