Driving Your Vehicle

Driving in the Rain

~1min read

Rain and wet roads can make driving dangerous, especially if you are not prepared for slippery pavement. Here are some things to consider when driving in rain:

  • Heavy rain will make it harder to see and increase the distance needed to stop your vehicle, so slow down.
  • Keep the windshield wiper equipment in good condition. Replace your wiper blades when they show signs of streaking or leave areas of the windshield uncleaned.
  • If your tires are not in good condition, a sudden stop on wet pavement may cause skidding and possibly an accident. Make sure your tires are in good condition.
  • Turn on the headlights so that other drivers can see you more easily.
  • Driving too fast through large puddles may affect your brakes. If you must drive through puddles, try to drive through them slowly.
  • If you think your brakes may have become wet, lightly apply them while driving until normal braking returns.
