Height Adjustment (5-Door and Wagon)

■ Front Seat

You can adjust the height of the shoulder belt anchor to one of 4 positions for maximum comfort and safety.

The height of the adjustable seat belt should not be too close to the neck. Otherwise, you will not get the most effective protection. The shoulder portion should be adjusted so that it lies across the chest and midway over the shoulder, not on the neck.

To adjust the seat belt height, press the release button, then move the height adjuster up or down to the desired position.

To raise the height adjuster, pull it upward (1). To lower it, press it (3) while pressing the height adjustment button (2).

Release the button to lock the anchor in position. Try to move the height adjuster to make sure it is locked in position.

Shoulder Belt Extension Guide (3-Door Only)

You can adjust the position of the shoulder belt extension guide to make it easier to access the shoulder belt.

  • Set the belt extension guide to position (1~2) when using the seat belt.
  • Set the belt extension guide to position (3) when entering or exiting the rear seat.

WARNING

  • Make sure the shoulder belt anchor is locked in the correct height position. Never position the shoulder belt under the arm or behind the back. Improperly positioned seat belts can cause serious injury in a crash.
  • Failure to replace seat belts after an accident may leave you with damaged seat belts that will not provide protection in the event of another collision, which could result in personal injury or death. Replace your seat belts as soon as possible after you have been in an accident.

To fasten the seat belt:

■ Rear center seat belt (if equipped)

To fasten the seat belt, pull it out of the retractor and insert the metal tongue (1) into the buckle (2). A "click" will be heard when the tongue latches into the buckle.

The seat belt automatically adjusts to the proper length only after the lap belt is manually adjusted so that it fits snugly around the hips. If you lean forward slowly and gently, the belt will extend and allow you to move. If there is a sudden stop or impact, however, the belt will lock in position. It will also lock if you try to lean forward too quickly.

CAUTION

When using the rear center seat belt, the buckle marked "CENTER" must be used.

✽ NOTICE

If you cannot pull the seat belt out of the retractor, pull the belt sharply and then release it. You will then be able to pull the belt out smoothly.

WARNING

Position the lap belt portion as low and tight as possible on the hips, not on the waist. If the lap belt is positioned too high on your waist, the chance of injury in a collision may increase. Neither hand should be under or over the belt. Instead, one should be over and the other under, as shown in the illustration.

Never fasten the seat belt under the arm near the door.

To unfasten the seat belt:

The seat belt is released by pressing the release button (A) on the buckle. When released, the belt should retract automatically into the retractor.

If this does not happen, check the belt to make sure it is not twisted, then try again.
