Seat Belt Restraint System
WARNING
- For maximum restraint protection, seat belts must always be used whenever the vehicle is moving.
- Seat belts are most effective when the seatbacks are in the upright position.
- Children aged 12 years and younger must always be properly restrained in the rear seat. Never allow children to ride in the front passenger seat. If a child older than 12 years must sit in the front seat, they must be properly belted and the seat should be moved as far back as possible.
- Never place the shoulder belt under the arm or behind the back. An improperly positioned shoulder belt may cause serious injury in an accident. The shoulder belt must be positioned across the middle of the shoulder and collarbone.
- Avoid using twisted seat belts. A twisted belt cannot perform its function properly. In a collision it may even cut into you. Make sure the belt webbing is flat and not twisted.
- Be careful not to damage the seat belt webbing or hardware. If the seat belt webbing or hardware is damaged, replace it.
WARNING
Seat belts are designed to fit the bone structure of the body, and should be worn low across the front of the pelvis or hips, chest and shoulder, as applicable. Wearing the lap portion of the belt across the abdominal area should be avoided.
Seat belts should be adjusted as tightly as possible for comfort, to provide the protection for which they were designed. Slack in the belt significantly reduces the protection provided to the occupant.
Take care to avoid contaminating the webbing with polishes, oils and chemicals, especially battery acid.
Cleaning can be safely performed using mild soap and water. The belt should be replaced if the webbing is worn, contaminated or damaged. It is essential to replace the entire assembly after it has been worn during a severe impact, even if damage to the assembly is not obvious. Belts must not be worn with twisted webbing. Each belt assembly must be used by only one occupant; it is dangerous to place the belt around a child being held on a passenger's lap.
WARNING
- The user must not make any changes or additions that would prevent the seat belt adjustment device from operating to eliminate slack, or prevent the seat belt assembly from being adjusted to remove slack.
- When fastening the seat belt, be careful not to fasten the seat belt buckle of another seat. This is very dangerous and you cannot be properly protected by the seat belt.
- Do not unfasten the seat belt, and do not fasten and unfasten the seat belt several times while driving. This may result in loss of control and an accident causing death, serious injury or property damage.
- When fastening the seat belt, make sure the seat belt does not pass over objects that are hard or could easily break.
- Make sure the buckle is latched. The seat belt may not be securely fastened.
