Inspection

  1. Turn the ignition off.
  2. Disconnect the mode control actuator connector.
  3. Check that the mode control actuator operates in defrost mode when 12 V is applied to terminal 3 and terminal 4 is grounded. Check that the mode control actuator operates in vent mode when the connection is reversed.

It will report the current actuator position to the controls.
  7. If the measured voltage does not meet the specification, replace the mode control actuator with a known good actuator and check for proper operation.
  8. If the problem is resolved, replace the mode actuator.

Replacement

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the emergency pad lower panel. (Refer to Body - "Emergency Pad Lower Panel")
  3. Remove the driver side air vent duct (A) after loosening the screw.
  4. Remove the brake pedal assembly. (Refer to Brake System - "Brake Pedal")
  5. Disconnect the connector (A) and remove the mode control actuator (B) after loosening the mounting screws.
  6. Install in the reverse order of removal.
