Driving Your Vehicle

OFF

~2min read

With Manual Transmission

To turn off the engine (START/RUN position) or the vehicle power (ON position), stop the vehicle, then press the engine start/stop button.

With Automatic Transmission/DCT*

To turn off the engine (START/RUN position) or the vehicle power (ON position), press the engine start/stop button with the gear shift lever in the P (Park) position. If the engine start/stop button is pressed without the gear shift lever in the P (Park) position, the engine start/stop button will not change to the OFF position but to the ACC position.

Vehicles with Anti-Theft Steering Column Lock

The steering wheel locks when the engine start/stop button is in the OFF position to protect you from theft. It locks when the driver's door is open.

If the steering wheel is not locked properly when the driver's door is opened, a warning chime will sound. Try locking the steering wheel again. If the problem is not resolved, we recommend that the system be inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

In addition, if the engine start/stop button is in the OFF position and the driver's door is opened after the driver's command, the steering wheel will not lock and the warning chime will sound. In this situation, close the door. The steering wheel will then lock and the warning chime will stop.

✽ NOTICE

If the steering wheel is not unlocked properly, the engine start/stop button will not operate. Press the engine start/stop button while turning the steering wheel right and left to release the tension.

CAUTION

You may turn off the engine (START/RUN) or the vehicle power (ON) only when the vehicle is not moving. In an emergency while the vehicle is moving, you may turn off the engine and move to the ACC position by pressing and holding the engine start/stop button for more than 2 seconds, or by pressing it 3 times in a row within 3 seconds. If the vehicle is still moving, the engine can be restarted without pressing the brake pedal by pressing the engine start/stop button with the gear shift lever in the N (Neutral) position.
