Removal

  1. Turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise and align its groove with the alignment mark on the timing chain cover.
  2. Remove the timing chain cover. (Refer to Valve Timing - Timing Chain Cover)
  3. Align the alignment marks of the CVVT sprockets with the upper surface of the cylinder head so that the No. 1 cylinder is at TDC.
  4. Remove the timing chain (A).
  5. Remove the timing chain tensioner arm (A) and the chain guide (B).
  6. Remove the timing chain (A).

Inspection

Sprockets, hydraulic tensioner, chain guide, tensioner arm, timing chain
  1. Inspect the CVVT sprocket and the crankshaft sprocket teeth for abnormal wear, cracks or damage. Replace if necessary.
  2. Inspect the contact surfaces of the timing chain tensioner arm and chain guide for abnormal wear, cracks or damage. Replace if necessary.
  3. Inspect the hydraulic tensioner for plunger movement and ratchet operation. Replace if necessary.
  4. Inspect the timing chain for elongation, excessive wear, or damage. Replace if necessary.

Installation

  1. The crankshaft positioning pin should be positioned at an angle of 3° to the vertical centerline.
  2. Align the TDC marks (A) of the CVVT sprockets with the upper surface of the cylinder head so that the No. 1 cylinder is at TDC.
  3. Install new O-rings (A).
  4. Install the timing chain guide (A) and the timing chain (B).

    Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

  5. Install the timing chain tensioner arm (A).

    Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

  6. Install the hydraulic tensioner (A) and remove the pin (B).

    Tightening torque: 9.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

  7. Install the timing chain cover.
