Bulb Replacement Precautions
Prepare bulbs with the appropriate ratings for emergencies. Refer to "Bulb Specifications" on page 9-04. When replacing bulbs and fuses, first turn off the engine in a safe place, firmly apply the parking brake, and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
WARNING
Lighting Work
Before working on the lighting, firmly apply the parking brake, make sure the ignition key is turned to the LOCK position, and turn off the lights to avoid sudden vehicle movement and burns or electric shock.
Use only bulbs of the specified wattage.
WARNING
Always replace a burned-out bulb with one of the same wattage rating. Otherwise, this may cause extensive wiring damage and possible fire.
CAUTION
If you do not have the necessary tools, the correct bulbs, and experience, consult a professional workshop. Kia recommends consulting an authorized Kia Dealer/Service Partner. In many cases, it is difficult to replace vehicle bulbs because other vehicle parts must be removed before you can reach the bulb. This is especially true if you must remove the headlamp assembly to reach the bulb(s). Removing/installing the headlamp assembly may damage the vehicle.
CAUTION
- If non-genuine parts or low-quality headlamps are used when replacing bulbs, this may cause fuses to blow, malfunctions, and other wiring damage.
- Do not install additional lamps or LEDs on the vehicle. If additional lamps are installed, this may cause lamp malfunctions and flickering lights. In addition, the fuse panel and other electrical components may be damaged.
• Malfunction of part of the lamp due to a network failure
The headlamp, tail lamp, and fog lamp may illuminate when the headlamps are on, and may not illuminate when the tail lamp or light switch is on. This may be caused by a network failure or a malfunction of the vehicle's electrical control system. If there is a problem, have the system serviced by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
• Lamp malfunction due to electrical control system stabilization
A normally operating lamp may flicker momentarily. This momentary phenomenon occurs due to the stabilizing action of the vehicle's electrical control system. If the lamp soon returns to normal, the vehicle does not require service.
However, if the lamp goes out after the momentary flicker, or the flickering continues, have the system serviced by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
NOTICE
- If a bulb or bulb connector is disconnected while the lamp is powered, the electronic control unit of the fuse panel may detect it as a malfunction. Therefore, the lamp malfunction history may be recorded as a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) in the fuse panel.
- It is normal for an operating lamp to flicker temporarily. Since this occurrence is related to the stabilization of the vehicle's electronic control unit operation, if the lamp normally lights after temporary flickering, there is no problem with the vehicle. However, if the lamp continues to flicker several times or goes out completely, there may be a malfunction in the vehicle's electronic control unit. In this case, have the vehicle inspected by a professional workshop immediately. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
NOTICE
After an accident or after the headlamp assembly has been reinstalled, the headlamp aiming direction must be adjusted by a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
NOTICE
After driving in heavy rain or after car washing, the headlamp and tail lamp lenses may appear frosted. This condition is caused by the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the lamp. It is similar to condensation on your windows inside the vehicle during rain and does not indicate a problem with your vehicle. If water enters the bulb circuit, have the vehicle inspected at a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
