Description and Operation

Description

The seat belt pretensioners (BPT) are installed inside the center pillars (LH & RH). In a vehicle collision of a certain frontal impact severity, the seat belt pretensioner helps reduce the severity of injury to front seat occupants by retracting the seat belt webbing. This prevents front occupants from moving forward and striking the steering wheel or instrument panel in a crash.
