Description and Operation

Description

The main purpose of the SRSCM (Supplemental Restraint System Control Module) is to distinguish between an event that requires restraint system deployment and an event that does not. The SRSCM must decide whether or not to use the restraint system. After determining the need for pretensioner and/or airbag deployment, the SRSCM must supply sufficient power to the pretensioners and airbag igniters to initiate deployment. The SRSCM determines that an impact may require deployment of the pretensioners and airbags based on data received from impact sensors and other components in combination with the safing function. The SRSCM will not be ready to detect a crash or activate restraint system devices until the signals in the SRSCM circuit have stabilized. It is possible that the SRSCM may activate restraint devices approximately 3 seconds after power-up, but full operation is guaranteed after verification is complete. The SRSCM must perform a diagnostic procedure and illuminate the SRS warning light when the ignition is turned on. The system must perform continuous diagnostic routines and provide fault warning via the warning light if a malfunction is detected. A serial diagnostic communication interface will be used to facilitate maintenance of the restraint control system.
