Tire Replacement with TPMS
If a tire goes flat, the low tire pressure and position warning lights will appear. In this case, have the system checked at a specialized workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
CAUTION
We recommend using a sealant approved by Kia.
The sealant on the tire pressure sensor and wheel must be removed when you replace the tire with a new one.
Each wheel is equipped with a tire pressure sensor installed inside the tire behind the valve stem. You must use genuine TPMS wheels. Have your tires serviced at a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
If you drive the vehicle for about 10 minutes at a speed above 25 km/h after replacing a low-pressure tire with the spare tire, one of the following will occur:
- The TPMS malfunction indicator may flash for about 1 minute and then remain on continuously because the TPMS sensor is not installed on the spare tire. (Replaced tire without sensor in the vehicle)
- The TPMS malfunction indicator will remain on continuously while driving because the TPMS sensor is not installed on the spare tire. (Replaced tire equipped with sensor in the vehicle)
You may not be able to detect a low tire by simply looking at it. Always use a good quality tire pressure gauge to measure tire pressure. Please note that a tire that is hot (from driving) will have a higher pressure reading than a cold tire (after the vehicle has been parked for at least 3 hours and driven less than 1.6 km (1 mile) during that 3-hour period).
Allow the tires to cool before measuring tire pressure. Always make sure the tires are cold before inflating them to the recommended pressure.
A cold tire means the vehicle has been parked for 3 hours and driven less than 1.6 km (1 mile) during that 3-hour period.
CAUTION
We recommend using a sealant approved by Kia if your vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Liquid sealant may damage the tire pressure sensors.
WARNING
TPMS
- The TPMS cannot warn you of severe and sudden tire damage caused by external factors such as nails or road debris.
- If you feel the vehicle becoming unstable, immediately release the accelerator pedal, apply the brake pedal gradually and with light force, and slowly move to a safe place off the road.
WARNING
TPMS Protection
Interference, modification, or disabling of the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) may interfere with the system's ability to warn the driver of low tire pressure conditions and/or TPMS malfunctions. Tampering, modifying, or disabling TPMS components may void the warranty on this part of the vehicle.
WARNING
FOR EUROPE
- Do not modify the vehicle, as this may interfere with the operation of the TPMS.
- Wheels available on the aftermarket do not have a TPMS sensor. For your safety, use replacement parts from a professional workshop. Kia recommends visiting an authorized Kia dealer/service partner.
- If you use aftermarket wheels, use a TPMS sensor approved by an authorized Kia dealer. If your vehicle is not equipped with a TPMS sensor or the TPMS does not operate properly, you may fail the periodic vehicle inspection conducted in your country.
❈ All vehicles sold in the EUROPEAN market during the period indicated below must be equipped with TPMS.
- New vehicle model: November 1, 2012 ~
