Rear Seat Adjustment

~3min read

Folding the Rear Seat

The rear seat backs can be folded down to facilitate transporting long items or to increase the cargo capacity of the vehicle.

WARNING

The folding rear seatbacks are designed so that you can carry longer items that cannot be accommodated in the cargo area.

Never allow passengers to sit on a folded seatback while the vehicle is moving. This is an improper seating position and the seat belts are not available for use. This may result in serious injury or death in the event of an accident or sudden stop.

Items carried on the folded seatback must not extend above the top of the front seatbacks. This may allow the cargo to slide forward and cause injury or damage during sudden stops.

To fold the rear seatback

1. Insert the rear seat belt buckle into the pocket between the rear seatback and the cushion. When folding the rear seatback, the seat belt strap must be positioned in the seat belt guide to prevent damage to the seat belt from loaded cargo, etc. If the seat belt is loose, it may be damaged or make noise. In this case, return the seatback to the upright position and pull the strap out of the guide to straighten it.

2. Place the front seatback in the upright position and, if necessary, move the front seat forward.

3. Lower the rear headrests to their lowest position.

4. Pull the seatback folding lever, then fold the seat forward. When returning the seatback to the upright position, make sure it is locked by pressing on the top of the seatback.

5. To use the rear seat, lift and pull the seatback rearward by pulling the folding lever. Pull the seatback firmly until it locks into place with a click. Make sure the seatback is locked.

6. Return the rear seat belt to its correct position.

WARNING

Upright seating position

When returning the seatback to the upright position, hold the seatback and return it slowly. If the seatback is returned without holding it, the seatback may spring forward, which may cause injury from being struck by the seatback.

CAUTION

Damage to rear seat belt latches

When folding the rear seatback, insert the buckle into the pocket between the rear seatback and the cushion. This helps prevent damage to the buckle.

CAUTION

Rear Seat Belts

When returning the rear seatbacks to the upright position, make sure the rear seat belts are positioned correctly. Routing the seat belt through the rear seat belt guides will help prevent the belts from being pinched behind or under the seats.

WARNING

Cargo

Cargo must always be secured to prevent it from being thrown around the vehicle in a collision and injuring vehicle occupants. Do not place items on the rear seats, as they cannot be properly secured and may strike the front passenger seatback in a collision.

WARNING

Loading Cargo

Make sure the engine is off, the automatic transmission/dual clutch transmission/intelligent Variable Transmission is in P (Park) or the manual transmission is in R (Reverse) or 1st gear, and the parking brake is firmly applied when loading or unloading cargo. Failure to follow these steps may cause the vehicle to move if the shift lever is accidentally moved out of position.

To unfold the rear seat

If you do not see the red line at the bottom of the folding lever, the seatback is fully locked.

2. Return the rear seat belt to the correct position.

3. When the seatback is fully raised, check the seatback folding lever again.
