In this manual: Checks
~1min read
On vehicles fitted with the HDI engine, after running out of fuel, the fuel system must be primed again; see the relevant engine compartment illustration in the "Diesel engines" section.
If the engine does not start the first time, do not repeat the attempt.
Prime the fuel system again using the priming pump, then start the engine.
1.4 litre Turbo HDI engine
- Top up the fuel tank with at least five litres of diesel.
- Open the engine cover.
- Pump the priming pump until it becomes firm (the first press may be hard).
- Crank the engine until it starts.
- Close the engine cover.
1.6 litre HDi engine
- Top up the fuel tank with at least five litres of diesel.
- Open the engine cover.
- If necessary, remove the decorative cover to access the priming pump.
- Pump the priming pump until it becomes firm (the first press may be hard).
- Crank the engine until it starts (if the engine does not start the first time, wait about 15 seconds and try again).
- After several unsuccessful attempts, pump the priming pump again, then crank the engine.
- Refit the decorative cover.
- Close the engine cover.
