Checks

Checking levels

~2min read

Levels should be checked regularly and topped up as necessary, except where contraindicated.

If the level drops significantly, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a specialist workshop to have the system checked.

When working under the bonnet, take particular care as some engine parts may be very hot (risk of burns).

Oil level

The reading is reliable if the vehicle is standing on a level surface and the engine has been switched off for more than 30 minutes.

The level can be checked using the gauge in the instrument cluster, after switching on the ignition, or using the engine oil dipstick.

Topping up oil between services is normal. The manufacturer recommends checking the oil level and topping it up every 5 000 kilometres.

Oil change

As specified in the warranty booklet.

To ensure engine and emissions control system performance, do not use engine oil additives.

Oil specification

The selected oil must suit the engine and meet the manufacturer's requirements.

Brake fluid level

The brake fluid level should be close to the "MAX" mark. Otherwise, check the brake pad wear.

Brake fluid replacement

As specified in the warranty booklet.

Fluid specification

The fluid must meet the manufacturer's requirements and the DOT 4 standard.

Coolant level

The coolant level should be close to the "MAX" mark, without exceeding it.

When the engine is warm, the coolant temperature is regulated by the cooling fan. It may run even after the ignition has been switched off.

On vehicles fitted with a particulate filter, the cooling fan may run after the vehicle has been switched off, even when the engine is cold.

The cooling system is under pressure. Wait at least one hour after switching off the engine before removing the cap.

To avoid scalding, turn the cap two turns to release the pressure. Once the pressure has dropped, remove the cap fully and top up the coolant level.

Coolant replacement

The coolant does not require replacement.

Fluid specification

The fluid must meet the manufacturer's requirements.

Windscreen and headlight washer fluid level

The minimum fluid level is indicated by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display.

Top up the level the next time the vehicle is stopped.

Fluid specification

To ensure optimum cleaning and to prevent the fluid from freezing, do not use water to top up or replace the fluid.

Diesel fuel additive level (diesel with particulate filter)

The minimum additive level is indicated by the illumination of the service warning light, an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display.

Topping up

Top up the additive as soon as possible at a PEUGEOT dealer or a specialist workshop.

Used oils and fluids

Avoid prolonged skin contact with used oil and fluids.

Most fluids are harmful to health and highly corrosive.

Do not pour used oil and fluids into drains or onto the ground.

Used oil must be drained into containers provided for this purpose at a PEUGEOT dealer or a specialist workshop.
