Front, knee, side & curtain
The airbags are designed to optimise the safety of the occupants (except the centre rear passenger) in the event of violent collisions. They complement the action of the seat belts, which are fitted with force limiters.
In this case, the electronic sensors record and analyse frontal and side impacts sustained in the impact detection zones:
- in the event of a violent impact, the airbags deploy instantly and protect the vehicle occupants (except the centre rear passenger); immediately after the impact, the airbags deflate rapidly so as not to obstruct visibility or the occupants' possible exit from the vehicle,
- in the event of a minor impact, a rear impact or certain rollover conditions, the airbags will not deploy; the seat belt alone is sufficient to provide optimum protection in these situations.
The airbags do not operate with the ignition switched off.
This equipment operates only once. If a second impact occurs (during the same accident or another accident), the airbag will not operate.
Impact detection zones

- Frontal impact zone.
- Side impact zone.
Deployment of the airbag(s) is accompanied by a slight release of harmless smoke and a noise, caused by the firing of the pyrotechnic cartridge built into the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but may irritate sensitive people.
The noise of the deployment may cause a temporary slight reduction in hearing ability.
Front airbags

In the event of a violent frontal impact, they protect the driver and front passenger, reducing the risk of head and chest injuries.
They are integrated into the centre of the steering wheel for the driver and into the dashboard for the front passenger.
Activation
They deploy simultaneously, unless the front passenger airbag is deactivated, in the event of a violent frontal impact applied to all or part of frontal impact zone A, along the longitudinal axis of the vehicle in a horizontal plane and from front to rear of the vehicle.
The front airbag is positioned between the front occupant and the dashboard to cushion their forward movement.
In case of malfunction
Instrument cluster warning light.
If this warning light comes on, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, consult the PEUGEOT network to have the system checked. The airbags may no longer deploy in the event of a violent impact.
