Supplementary restraint systems

~1min read

All recommendations given below are intended to ensure the airbag fully deploys and to prevent serious injury when it is activated.

The airbag is designed to supplement the seat belts. Both are inseparable parts of the same restraint system. It is therefore very important that seat belts are always fastened. Not fastening seat belts may expose occupants to serious injury in an accident, and also increase the risk of skin injuries caused by the deployment of the airbag itself.

Seat belt pretensioners and airbags are not always triggered in a rollover or rear-end collision, even at high force. Impacts to the underbody of the vehicle, caused by hitting a curb, potholes, stones, etc., may also trigger these systems.

  • Any repair or modification to the entire airbag system (airbags, seat belt pretensioners, electronic control module, wiring, etc.) is strictly prohibited, except when carried out by an Authorised Brand Partner.
  • To ensure correct system operation and to prevent unexpected activation, note that only an Authorised Brand Partner is authorised to carry out repairs to the airbag system.
  • For safety reasons, the airbag system must be inspected if the vehicle has been involved in a collision, has been stolen, or has been the target of a theft attempt.
  • If the vehicle is lent or sold, inform the new user that the vehicle is equipped with an airbag system, and hand over this owner's manual.
  • If the vehicle must be scrapped, contact an Authorised Brand Partner to have the gas generator(s) deactivated.
