Static ignition
OVERVIEW
The system consists of:
- the injection ECU (the ignition power stage is integrated in the ECU),
- two dual-output coils (moulded as a single unit on the D7F engine),
- four spark plugs,
- a suppression capacitor (4).
DESCRIPTION - OPERATING PRINCIPLE
THE ECU
Based on information received from the various sensors, but mainly on engine speed and load, the injection ECU (120) determines:
- the number of degrees of advance to apply and therefore the ignition timing,
- the cylinders at TDC and therefore the coil to be triggered.
It produces the spark on both cylinders at TDC by interrupting the ground circuit of the relevant coil.
THE COILS (1)
There are two of them. They are dual-output coils (they cannot be separated on the D7F engine).
They are triggered separately by the ECU.
They produce two sparks simultaneously.
Both coils are connected to a suppression capacitor.

E7J engine specifics
Coil (2) has a black electrical connector. It produces the spark on cylinders 1 and 4 simultaneously. It is controlled by pin 28 of the injection ECU.
Coil (3) has a grey electrical connector. It produces the spark on cylinders 2 and 3 simultaneously. It is controlled by pin 29 of the injection ECU.
