Brake fluid

BRAKE FLUID REPLACEMENT INTERVAL

Our brake technology, and in particular our disc brakes (hollow pistons that transfer little heat, small fluid volume in the cylinder, sliding calipers that avoid a reserve of fluid in the least-cooled area of the wheel), has allowed us to minimise the risk of vapour lock, even under intensive brake use (mountainous areas).

Current brake fluids do, however, degrade slightly during the first months of use due to a slight moisture absorption (see the warranty and vehicle maintenance booklet for fluid replacement).

Topping up the level

Wear of the brake pads and shoes causes the brake fluid level in the reservoir to drop gradually. There is no need to compensate for this drop; the level will be restored at the next pad replacement. However, it must never fall below the MIN mark.

Approved brake fluids

Mixing two incompatible brake fluids in the braking circuit can cause serious leaks, mainly due to deterioration of the seals. To avoid such risks, it is essential to use only brake fluids tested and approved by our laboratories and conforming to SAE J 1703 DOT 4 standard.
