Timing belt tension

~1min read

Tensioning procedure

Engine cold (ambient temperature).

Fit the new belt.

Fit the sensor of Mot. 1273.

Turn the sensor knob until it trips (three "CLICKS").

Tension the belt until the recommended fitting value is shown on the Mot. 1273 display.

Lock the tensioner, check, adjust the value.

Turn the crankshaft at least three turns.

Check that the tension value is within the fitting tension tolerance (± 10%). If not, readjust it by repeating the operations above.

NOTE:

  • For the F8Q engine, remove the pin Tool 1054 before fitting the sensor Tool 1273, then apply firm pressure to the belt run between the intermediate shaft sprocket (or idler sprocket) and the tensioner roller, then take the measurement.
  • Do not refit a removed belt.
  • Replace the belt if the tension is below the minimum operating value.
