WARNING
NEVER turn the ignition key to the LOCK or ACC position while the vehicle is moving, except in an emergency. This will turn off the engine and cause loss of power steering and brake assist. This may result in loss of steering and braking control, which may cause an accident.
Before leaving the driver's seat, always make sure the shift lever is in P (Park), apply the parking brake, and turn the ignition key to LOCK.
Failure to observe these precautions may result in unexpected vehicle movement.

Starting the Engine
WARNING
Always wear appropriate footwear when driving.
Inappropriate footwear, such as high heels, ski boots, sandals, flip-flops, etc., may prevent you from properly operating the brake and accelerator pedals.
1. Make sure the parking brake is applied.
2. Make sure the shift lever is in P (Park).
3. Depress the brake pedal.
4. Turn the ignition key to the START position. Hold the key (maximum 10 seconds) until the engine starts, then release it.
Information
- Do not wait for the engine to warm up while the vehicle is stationary. Start driving at moderate engine speed. (Avoid sudden acceleration and deceleration.)
- Whether the engine is cold or warm, always start the vehicle with your foot on the brake pedal. Do not depress the accelerator pedal while starting the vehicle. Do not race the engine during warm-up.
NOTICE
To avoid damage to the vehicle:
- Do not hold the ignition key in the START position for more than 10 seconds. Wait 5 to 10 seconds before trying again.
- If traffic and road conditions allow, you may shift the shift lever to the N (Neutral) position while the vehicle is still moving and turn the ignition switch to the START position to attempt to restart the engine.
- Do not push or tow the vehicle to start the engine.
