Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

~2min read

The Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) helps detect lane markings on the road using the camera mounted on the windshield and assists the driver in steering the vehicle to keep it within its lane.

When the system detects that the vehicle is drifting out of its lane, it warns the driver with a visual and audible warning and applies a small counter-steering torque, attempting to prevent the vehicle from leaving its lane.

WARNING

  • The driver is responsible for being aware of the surroundings and for operating the vehicle safely.
  • Do not turn the steering wheel abruptly while the system is steering the steering wheel.
  • LKAS helps prevent the driver from unintentionally drifting out of the driving lane by assisting the driver in steering the vehicle. However, the system is only a convenience feature and steering is not always controlled. Always pay attention to the steering wheel while driving.
  • LKAS operation may be canceled or may not work properly depending on road and surrounding conditions. Always drive carefully.

WARNING

  • Do not disassemble the LKAS camera temporarily to tint the windows or install any kind of film or accessories. If the camera is disassembled and reinstalled, have your vehicle inspected and the system calibrated by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • When replacing the windshield, LKAS camera or related steering components, have your vehicle inspected and the system calibrated by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
  • The system detects lane markings and controls the steering wheel using the camera, so if the markings are difficult to detect, the system may not operate properly. Always be careful when using the system.
  • If lane markings are difficult to detect, refer to "Driving Assist Systems" section.
  • Do not remove or damage any LKAS components.

WARNING

  • Do not place reflective items such as mirrors, white paper, etc. on the instrument panel. The system may malfunction if sunlight is reflected.
  • Do not place any accessories near the rearview mirror.
  • You may not hear the LKAS warning sound if the audio system volume is too loud.
  • If you continue driving without holding the steering wheel, LKAS will stop assisting steering after the warning sounds. After that, if you drive with your hands on the steering wheel, steering assistance will be activated again.
  • At high vehicle speeds, the steering assist torque will not be sufficient to keep the vehicle within the lane. In this case, the vehicle may leave its lane.
  • If you attach objects to the steering wheel, the system may not be able to assist with steering.
  • If you attach any objects to the steering wheel, the hands-off warning may not work properly.
