If the vehicle becomes stuck
If the wheels spin or the vehicle becomes stuck in mud, dirt or snow, proceed as follows:
- Stop the engine. Apply the parking brake and move the shift lever to N.
- Remove mud, snow or sand from around the stuck tire.
- Place pieces of wood, stones or other materials under the tires to increase traction.
- Restart the engine.
- Move the shift lever to E, M or R (multi-mode manual transmission) or to 1 or R (manual transmission), then release the parking brake. Then, carefully depress the accelerator pedal.
■ If you have difficulty freeing the vehicle (vehicles with VSC system) Press
to turn off the TRC system.
Turn off the TRC and/or VSC systems if they interfere with attempts to free the vehicle.
■ Emergency towing hooks If the vehicle becomes stuck and cannot move, the emergency towing hooks are used to attach another vehicle that can pull it free.
This vehicle is not designed to tow other vehicles.

WARNING
■ When attempting to free a stuck vehicle If you rock the vehicle back and forth to try to free it, check that the surrounding area is clear to avoid collisions with other vehicles, objects or people.
Once the vehicle is freed, it may suddenly lurch forward or backward.
Use extreme caution.
■ When shifting gears with the shift lever (vehicles with multi-mode manual transmission) Be careful not to move the shift lever while the accelerator pedal is depressed.
This may cause the vehicle to accelerate rapidly and suddenly, which could result in a crash causing serious or fatal injury.
NOTE
■ To avoid damaging the transmission and other components
- Avoid wheel spin and do not depress the accelerator pedal more than necessary.
- If the vehicle remains stuck even after these procedures have been performed, it may need to be towed.
