If the vehicle must be towed
If the vehicle needs to be towed, it is recommended that you have it towed by any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another suitably qualified and equipped professional, such as a roadside assistance service using a wheel-lift tow truck or a flatbed tow truck.
For all types of towing, use a safety chain system and comply with all applicable government and local regulations.
Situations in which you must contact a dealer before towing
The following symptoms may indicate a transmission problem. Before towing, contact immediately any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another suitably qualified and equipped professional, or a roadside assistance service.
- The engine runs, but the vehicle does not move.
- The vehicle makes an abnormal noise.
Towing with a wheel-lift tow truck

Do not tow the vehicle with a wheel-lift tow truck, to avoid damage to the body.
Towing with a flatbed tow truck
From the front

Release the parking brake.
From the rear

Use a towing dolly under the front wheels.
Using a flatbed tow truck

If the vehicle is transported by a flatbed tow truck, it must be secured at the points shown in the illustration.

If chains or cables are used to secure the vehicle, the shaded black angles must be 45°.
Do not overtighten the securing devices, otherwise the vehicle may be damaged.
Emergency towing
If a tow truck is not available, in an emergency the vehicle may be towed temporarily using cables or chains secured to the emergency towing eye. This type of towing must be carried out only on a compact, paved road surface for a maximum of 80 km and at speeds below 30 km/h.
A driver must be in the vehicle to operate the steering and brakes. The wheels, drive chain, axles, steering and brakes of the vehicle must be in good condition.
Emergency towing procedure
1. Remove the towing eye.
2. Press the lower left part of the towing eye cover to open it.

3. Insert the towing eye into the hole and tighten it partially by hand.

4. Tighten the towing eye using a wheel nut wrench or a hard metal bar.
To avoid damaging the front bumper, wrap the wheel nut wrench in a cloth, as shown in the illustration.

5. Securely attach cables or chains to the towing eye.
Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.
6. Vehicles without smart entry & start system: Get into the vehicle being towed and start the engine.

Failure to observe this may result in serious or fatal injury.
■ While towing the vehicle Make sure the vehicle is transported with the front wheels raised or with all four wheels off the ground.
If the vehicle is towed with the front wheels on the ground, the engine-transaxle assembly and related parts may be damaged.

- If towing with cables or chains, avoid sudden starts, etc., which would place excessive stress on the towing eyes, cables or chains.
The towing eyes, cables or chains may be damaged, and parts that come loose may strike people and cause serious injury.
■ Installing the towing eye on the vehicle Check that the towing eye is firmly installed.
Otherwise, the eye may come loose during towing.
