Components

Removal
  1. Disconnect cable from negative battery terminal
Caution: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  1. Remove map light assembly

  1. Detach the 4 clips and remove the map light.
  2. Disconnect the light connector.
  3. Remove map light lens

  1. Using a screwdriver, pry out the 8 claws and remove the map light lens.
Hint:

Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

Disassembly
  1. Remove map light bulb

  1. Remove the 2 bulbs from the light.
Inspection
  1. Inspect map light assembly
  2. Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to terminal 6 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1, and then check that the light comes on when the switch is in the door position.

Ok: light comes on.

If the result is not as specified, replace the light assembly.

  1. Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to terminal 6 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 7, and then check that the light comes on when the switch is in the on position.
Ok: light comes on.

If the result is not as specified, replace the light assembly.

Reassembly
  1. Install map light bulb

  1. Install the 2 bulbs to the light.
Installation
  1. Install map light lens

  1. Attach the 8 claws to install the map light lens.
  2. Install map light assembly
    Toyota RAV4. Install map light assembly

  1. Connect the light connector.
  2. Attach the 4 clips to install the map light.
  3. Connect cable to negative battery terminal
