Observing certain airbag system precautions can considerably reduce the risk of injury!
CAUTION!
To ensure that the curtain airbags deploy properly, nothing must obstruct their respective deployment zones.
Only hang lightweight clothing on the coat hooks. Make sure that the pockets of garments do not contain any heavy or sharp objects. Furthermore, do not use hangers to hang up clothing.
No person (a child, for example) or animal may be positioned between an occupant and the deployment zone of a curtain airbag. Furthermore, no one may lean out of the vehicle or put an arm or hand through an open side window while the vehicle is moving.
Do not fold the sun visors down toward the side windows if objects such as a ballpoint pen or garage door opener are attached to them. These objects could injure you if a curtain airbag deploys.
The airbag system works with sensors located in the front doors. To avoid impairing the operation of the side airbags, do not carry out any work on the doors or door trim (e.g. retrofitting loudspeakers). Damage to the front doors can impair the function of the system. Only a specialist workshop is qualified to carry out work on the front doors.
Only sunshades that do not obstruct the airbag deployment zone and do not impair its effectiveness may be attached to the rear doors.
Installing unsuitable accessories in the curtain airbag area can considerably reduce the protective effect of the curtain airbag when it deploys. When the curtain airbag deploys, parts of the accessories may be thrown across the passenger compartment and injure occupants.
For any repair of the curtain airbag, and for removing/installing system components required to carry out other repair work (for example, removing the headliner trim), contact a specialist workshop exclusively to avoid disrupting the operation of the airbag system.
