Description of side airbags

Together with the curtain airbag system (SIDEGUARD), the side airbag provides greater occupant protection in a side collision.

The side airbags are housed in the padding of the backrests of the front seats and the left and right rear seats* => fig. 183.

Each mounting location is marked with the word “AIRBAG”.

In severe side collisions, the side airbags, combined with the three-point seat belts, provide occupants with additional protection for the torso (chest, abdomen and pelvis). See “Important safety information about side airbags”.

In side collisions, the side airbags reduce the risk of injury on the side exposed to the impact.

When the side airbags deploy, the curtain airbags (SIDEGUARD)* deploy at the same time to increase occupant protection on the side exposed to the impact.
