All work on the battery requires specialist knowledge!

The battery requires virtually no maintenance. It is checked as part of the service.

If the battery is more than 5 years old, we recommend replacing it.

Disconnecting the battery

Disconnecting the battery causes several vehicle functions to malfunction (e.g. electric windows).

Once the battery is reconnected, you must reset the functions.

To avoid this, only disconnect the battery from the vehicle electrical system in exceptional cases.

Extended parking

Permanent current consumers discharge the battery, even when the vehicle is parked. For extended parking in cold weather, remove the battery and store it in a frost-free place. This prevents the battery from freezing and being damaged. In warm weather, it is sufficient to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Recharge a disconnected battery from time to time.

Winter operation

In cold weather, the battery is under particular strain and has reduced starting capacity. Have the battery checked before the cold season begins and recharge it if necessary.

Replacing the vehicle battery

The new battery must have the same capacity, voltage, amperage and design as the original battery, and the caps must be sealed. Batteries specially developed by Audi meet the vehicle's maintenance, performance and safety standards.

We recommend using maintenance-free batteries or sealed, non-spill batteries that comply with standards TL 825 06 (December 1997) and VW 7 50 73 (August 2001).

CAUTION!

  • All work on the battery requires specialist knowledge. For further information on the battery, contact an Audi dealer or a specialist workshop - risk of injury and explosion!
  • Do not open the battery! Do not attempt to change the battery electrolyte level, otherwise explosive gas may cause an explosion!

Warning!

  • The battery holder and terminal clamps must always be correctly secured.
  • Before carrying out work on the battery, observe the warnings => A in the chapter "Battery handling warnings".

Environment

The batteries contain toxic substances such as sulfuric acid and lead. They must be disposed of in accordance with legal requirements and must never be discarded with household waste. Make sure the removed battery cannot tip over, otherwise sulfuric acid may leak out!
