Running-in
A new vehicle must be run in over a distance of 1500 km. During the first 1000 km, do not exceed 2/3 of the maximum permitted engine speed! Do not accelerate at full throttle and do not tow a trailer! Engine speed and vehicle speed may then be increased gradually between 1000 and 1500 km.
During the first hours of operation, the engine has higher internal friction than later, when all moving parts are run in.
The way you drive during the first 1,500 kilometres also affects the engine's condition. Afterwards, continue to drive at moderate engine speeds, especially when the engine is cold. This reduces engine wear and extends its service life.
Do not drive at engine speeds that are too low. Shift down if the engine no longer runs smoothly. An automatic limiter prevents the engine from running at extremely high speeds.
