This section describes the internet connection, Screen Mirroring and device settings in the BMW 5 VII Gen, model years 2017–2024. In a few steps, connect your smartphone or tablet to the vehicle via WiFi for seamless access to internet services, display mirroring and additional functions. Managing and disconnecting devices in a targeted way is also explained. Ideal for modern connectivity on the go.

Internet connection

General

Up to 8 devices can be connected to the internet hotspot at the same time.

Prerequisites for operation

  • ConnectedDrive contract.
  • Data contract with a service provider.
  • WiFi-capable device.
  • WiFi activated on the device.
  • Internet hotspot activated in the vehicle.
  • Ready mode switched on.

Activate internet hotspot

Via iDrive:

  1. "My Vehicle"
  2. "iDrive settings"
  3. "Mobile devices"
  4. "Settings"
  5. "Internet hotspot"

Connect device to internet hotspot

Via iDrive:

  1. "My Vehicle"
  2. "iDrive settings"
  3. "Mobile devices"
  4. "Connect new device"
  5. "Internet hotspot" The hotspot name and hotspot key are shown on the Control Display.
  6. Search for WiFi networks on the device.
Select the network name on the device.
  • Enter the hotspot key on the device and connect.

    • When using the internet hotspot for the first time, data volume must be purchased from a service provider.

    All devices connected via the internet hotspot use this data volume.

    Data volume can be purchased via the ConnectedDrive Store, if available.

    Settings

    The network name and the hotspot key can be changed. In addition, the network name can be hidden so that other devices cannot find it.

    Via iDrive:

    1. "My Vehicle"
    2. "iDrive settings"
    3. "Mobile devices"
    4. Press the button.
    • "Change hotspot key" Enter the desired hotspot key.
    • "Change hotspot name" Enter the desired network name.
    • "Hide hotspot" Activate or deactivate the function.

    Screen Mirroring

    General

    Screen Mirroring allows the smartphone display to be shown on the Control Display.

    Prerequisites for operation

    • Compatible smartphone that supports Screen Mirroring.
    • Screen Mirroring is switched on on the smartphone.
    • WiFi is switched on in the vehicle.

    Switch on WiFi

    Pair smartphone with Screen Mirroring

    Via iDrive:

    1. "My Vehicle"

    4. "Connect new device"
    5. "Screen Mirroring" The Wi-Fi name of the vehicle is shown on the Control Display.
    6. On the smartphone, search for Wi-Fi devices in the vicinity.

    The Wi-Fi name of the vehicle is shown on the device display. Select the Wi-Fi name of the vehicle.

  • Confirm the connection via iDrive.

    • The device is connected and shown in the device list.

    Additional functions

    After first pairing

    • The device connects to the vehicle after a short time when the engine is running or ACC/accessory mode is switched on.
    • After detection, the data stored on the SIM card or mobile phone is transferred to the vehicle.
    • Some devices require specific settings, e.g. authorization. See the device owner's manual.
    • After pairing once, the devices are detected and reconnected automatically when accessory mode is switched on.

    Configure device

    Functions can be activated or deactivated when a device is paired or connected.

    Via iDrive:

    4. Select the desired device.
    5. Select the desired setting.

    If a function is assigned to a device, it may be deactivated on a device that is already connected, and that device is disconnected.

    Connect a specific device

    Via iDrive:

    1. "My Vehicle"
    2. "iDrive settings"
    3. "Mobile devices"
    4. Select the device.
    5. "Connect device"

    The functions assigned before the device was disconnected are assigned to the device again when it reconnects. If another device is already connected, these functions may be deactivated.

    Disconnect device

    Via iDrive:

    1. "My Vehicle"
    2. "iDrive settings"
    3. "Mobile devices"
    4. Select the device.
    5. "Disconnect device"

    The device remains paired and can be reconnected 45.

    Delete device

    Via iDrive:

    1. "My Vehicle"
    2. "iDrive settings"
    3. "Mobile devices"
    4. Select the device.
    5. "Delete device"

    The device is disconnected and deleted from the device list.

    Swap phone and additional phone

    If two mobile phones are connected to the vehicle, the functions of phone and additional phone can be swapped.

    The modern connectivity options of the BMW 5 Series G30/G31, such as Internet hotspot and Screen Mirroring, turn the vehicle into a mobile communication center. This allows drivers and passengers to stay online at all times or to show content directly on the Control Display.
