Data protection

Data protection has the highest priority in the BMW 5 (VII generation / G30 & G31). This section explains how data transmission can be activated or deactivated and how personal data can be completely deleted from the vehicle. An important function, especially when changing vehicles or selling the vehicle.

Data transmission

Principle

The vehicle offers various functions that require data transmission to BMW or to a service provider. For some functions, data transmission can be deactivated.

General

If data transmission is deactivated, the respective function cannot be used.

Only make settings when the vehicle is stationary.

Activating/deactivating data transmission

Observe the instructions on the Control Display.

Deleting personal data in the vehicle

Principle

Depending on use, the vehicle stores personal data, such as saved radio stations.

This personal data can be permanently deleted via iDrive.

General

Depending on the equipment, the following data can be deleted:

• Driver profile settings.
• Stored radio stations.
• Stored favorite buttons.
• Trip and on-board computer values.
• Music hard drive.
• Navigation, e.g. saved destinations.
• Phone book.
• Online data, e.g. favorites, cookies.
• Office data, e.g. voice notes.
• Login accounts.

Deleting all data can take up to 15 minutes.

Requirements for function

Data can only be deleted when the vehicle is stationary.

Deleting data

Observe and follow the instructions on the Control Display.

Via iDrive:

   Leave the vehicle and lock it.

The deletion process is complete after 15 minutes.

If not all data has been deleted, repeat the deletion if necessary.

Cancelling deletion

To cancel the deletion of data, switch the vehicle to Ready mode.

Data protection in the BMW 5 G30/G31 is a central element of modern vehicle connectivity. Users have full control over data transmission and can individually decide which information is shared.
