Operating Principle

Your BMW vehicle is equipped with an electromechanical parking brake.

The parking brake serves to keep a parked vehicle from rolling away.

The parking brake can be operated in two ways:

► manually, by pulling or pressing the switch
► automatically, by activating Auto Hold

When the engine is off, the parking brake acts on the rear wheels through its own electromechanical actuator. When the engine is running, the parking brake acts on the brake mechanisms of the front and rear wheels through the hydraulic brake system.
