Auto Hold

Operating Principle

While driving, this system assists the driver by automatically applying and releasing the parking brake when stopping at traffic lights or in stop-start traffic.

When active, the system holds the vehicle in place while stopped.

When starting off on an incline, it prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards.

This system can be activated after the engine is started, and it remains active until the engine is switched off next time, as long as the driver's seat is occupied.

Activating the function

Press the switch. The LED in the switch lights up and the AUTO H message appears in the instrument cluster.

Auto Hold is activated.

When the vehicle is held by Auto Hold, the green indicator lamp additionally lights up in the instrument cluster.

Deactivating the function

Press the switch again – the LED in the switch and the AUTO H message go out.

Auto Hold is deactivated.

If Auto Hold is holding the vehicle at this moment, depress the brake pedal as well to deactivate it.

When the parking brake is applied manually, Auto Hold is automatically deactivated.

Driving

With Auto Hold activated, the vehicle is held in place automatically while stopped.

The green indicator lamp in the instrument cluster is lit.

To drive off again with the transmission in drive position, simply depress the accelerator pedal. The parking brake is released automatically and the indicator lamp goes out.

Before driving through a car wash, deactivate Auto Hold, otherwise the vehicle will be held by the parking brake and cannot roll.◄

Parking

When the vehicle is held by Auto Hold and you switch off the engine, the parking brake is applied automatically.

The indicator lamp in the instrument cluster changes color from green to red.

The parking brake does not engage if the engine was switched off while the vehicle was rolling.

In this case, Auto Hold is deactivated.◄

The parking brake can also be released manually after the engine has been switched off, as long as the key remains in the ignition lock. This may be useful, for example, in car wash installations.

When leaving the vehicle, take the vehicle key with you so that, for example, children cannot accidentally release the parking brake.◄

For your safety

Auto Hold deactivates automatically when:

► the engine is switched off;
► the driver's seat is unoccupied while the engine is running;
► the vehicle is braked to a complete stop using the parking brake while driving.

The indicator lamp in the instrument cluster changes color from green to red and the AUTO H message goes out.

Before driving off, release the parking brake by pressing its switch, or reactivate Auto Hold.

Before leaving the vehicle with the engine running, shift the automatic transmission to position P and make sure the parking brake is applied. Otherwise the vehicle may roll away unexpectedly.◄
