Caution If the wrong fuel is used or incorrect fuel additives are put into the fuel tank, the engine and catalytic converter may be seriously damaged. Always make sure the correct fuel (petrol or diesel) is being poured into the tank when refuelling. If a vehicle with a diesel engine is fuelled with petrol, the vehicle may be seriously damaged. If the vehicle has a diesel engine, check the correct fuel on the fuel filler cap before refuelling. For safety reasons, canisters, fuel dispensers and fuel dispenser hoses must be properly earthed. Accumulated electrical charge may ignite petrol vapour.

This may result in burns or damage to the vehicle.

Danger Before refuelling, switch off the engine and any external heating devices with combustion chambers. Also switch off mobile phones. Fuel vapours may be ignited by electromagnetic waves or electrical charges from mobile phones. Fuel is flammable and explosive. Therefore, do not smoke while refuelling. In addition, do not use open flames or devices that produce sparks during refuelling and in the immediate vicinity of fuel. During refuelling, strictly follow the instructions and guidelines for customers at the petrol station. Before touching or unscrewing the filler cap or the dispenser nozzle, discharge any electrical charge accumulated on your hands by touching an object that can conduct such a charge away. During refuelling, do not perform any actions that may generate electrical charges, such as getting in and out of the vehicle. Fuel vapours may be ignited by accumulated electrical charges.

If you smell fuel in the vehicle, contact a workshop immediately to have the cause of the fault removed.

The fuel filler flap is located at the rear, on the right-hand side of the vehicle.

  1. Switch off the engine.
  2. To unlock the fuel filler flap, press the c button on the instrument panel or on the remote control transmitter.
  3. Open the fuel filler flap.
  4. Slowly turn the filler cap anticlockwise. If you hear a hissing sound, wait until it stops before removing the cap completely.

  1. If the cap is locked, it can be opened with the ignition key. Remove the cap. The cap is attached to the flap hinge by a cord.
  2. After refuelling, close the cap. Turn it clockwise until you hear a click.
  3. Close the fuel filler flap and press it until it latches.

Note If the fuel filler flap does not open at low outside temperatures, tap it lightly and then try opening it again.

Caution Immediately wipe up any spilled fuel.
