Towing a trailer
Mechanical device designed to attach a trailer or caravan, with additional signalling and lighting.
Towing a trailer
Your vehicle is primarily designed for carrying passengers and luggage, but it can also be used to tow a trailer.
We recommend using genuine CITROËN towing brackets and their wiring harnesses, which have been tested and approved during the design of your vehicle, and having the installation of this device carried out by the CITROËN network.
! If the towing bracket is fitted outside the CITROËN network, the installation must imperatively use the vehicle's electrical pre-wiring and the manufacturer's recommendations.
Towing a trailer places greater stress on the towing vehicle and requires particular attention from the driver. Driving tips Load distribution- Distribute the load in the trailer so that the heaviest items are as close as possible to the axle, and so that the nose weight approaches the maximum permitted, without exceeding it.
Air density decreases with altitude, reducing engine performance. Reduce the maximum towing capacity by 10% for every 1,000 metres of altitude.
Refer to the "Technical specifications" chapter for the weights and towing capacities for your vehicle.
Crosswind- Take into account the increased sensitivity to crosswind.
Towing a trailer up a slope increases the coolant temperature.
As the fan is electrically operated, its cooling capacity does not depend on engine speed.
- To reduce engine speed, reduce your speed.
The maximum towing capacity on a prolonged gradient depends on the steepness of the slope and the outside temperature.
In all cases, monitor the coolant temperature.

- If the warning lamp and the STOP lamp come on, stop the vehicle and switch off the engine as soon as possible.
Towing a trailer increases braking distance.
Tyres- Check the tyre pressures of the towing vehicle and the trailer, observing the recommended pressures.
- Check the trailer's electrical signalling.

Cover
When towing, it is imperative to remove the front bumper cover as well as the bonnet seal if your vehicle is fitted with one.
For this, contact the CITROËN network.
