Switching off the engine

~1min read
  • Stop the vehicle.
  • With the engine idling, turn the key fully towards you to position 1 (Stop).
  • Remove the key from the ignition.
  • To lock the steering column, turn the steering wheel until it locks.
To make it easier to unlock the steering wheel, we recommend setting the front wheels straight ahead before switching off the engine.
  • Make sure the parking brake is correctly applied, especially on a slope.
Never switch off the ignition before the vehicle has come to a complete stop. When the engine stops, the brake and power steering assistance are also switched off, which may cause loss of control of the vehicle. When leaving the vehicle, keep the key with you and lock the vehicle.

Energy saving mode

After the engine is switched off (position 1 - Stop), functions such as the audio and telematics system, windscreen wipers, dipped headlights, interior lights... can still be used for a total of up to thirty minutes.

For more details, see the section "Energy saving mode".

Key left warning buzzer If the key is left in the ignition when the driver's door is opened, an audible warning will sound.
