Hill start assist

~1min read

This system assists the driver when pulling away on a slope (uphill or downhill).

It prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards or forwards by automatically applying the brakes when the driver releases the brake pedal to press the accelerator pedal.

System operation

The system only operates when the gear selector lever is in a position other than neutral and the vehicle is stationary (brake pedal pressed).

The system holds the vehicle for approximately 2 seconds. Then the brakes are released and the vehicle starts moving, depending on the gradient of the slope.

The hill start assist cannot completely prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards in all situations (very steep slopes, etc.). In all cases, the driver can apply the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards. The hill start assist must not be used after the vehicle has been parked for a long time: in this case, use the brake pedal. This function is not intended to hold the vehicle in place permanently. If necessary, press the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. On slippery or low-grip surfaces and/or on sloping terrain, the driver must exercise particular caution. Risk of serious injury.
