Daewoo Nexia: Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
GENERAL INFORMATION

Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
1. THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR.
2. THROTTLE BODY
The TPS is a potentiometer installed in the throttle body and connected to the throttle shaft. The TPS wiring includes a 5 V supply wire,
a ground wire and a signal wire. The ECM determines the current throttle position from the TPS signal voltage. When the accelerator pedal is pressed, the TPS signal changes accordingly. With the throttle closed, the signal voltage is about 0.5 V. As the throttle opens, the TPS signal voltage increases and reaches about 5 V at full throttle. The ECM
a ground wire and a signal wire. The ECM
meters fuel supply depending on the throttle opening angle, which is
determined by the driver's input. Broken or loose wire contacts may cause uneven fuel supply to the cylinders and unstable
engine idle, since the ECM interprets an unstable TPS signal as
throttle movement. If the TPS or wiring fails, the ECM
sets trouble code
21. After this, the ECM ignores the TPS signal – engine
operation improves. When trouble code 21 is set, a high engine idle speed is maintained.
Remove or disconnect:
PROCEDURE.
1. Electrical connector..
2. Mounting screws and locking washers..
3. Sensor..
Installation
PROCEDURE.
1. Close the throttle valve and install the TPS in the throttle body..
2. Install the two mounting screws. Tighten the TPS mounting screws to torque 2 N·m..
Warning.
Using a scan tool, check the TPS signal voltage with the throttle fully closed.
The signal voltage must not exceed 1.25 V. Otherwise (voltage above 1.25 V), check for sticking of the throttle shaft or TPS lever. If the cause cannot be found, replace the TPS..
If the cause cannot be found, replace the TPS..
