<br> Heated Oxygen Sensor
GENERAL INFORMATION

Heated Oxygen Sensor
The oxygen sensor (O2S) is installed in the exhaust pipe and is washed by the flow of exhaust gases..
The O2S signal voltage changes depending on the oxygen content in the exhaust gases. The signal voltage can vary from 0.1 V (high oxygen content
– lean air-fuel mixture) to 0.9 V (low oxygen content –
– rich air-fuel mixture). The O2S signal voltage can be measured with a digital voltmeter with an input impedance of at least 10 MΩ. Using a conventional
voltmeter will result in a large measurement error. By constantly monitoring the O2S signal voltage, the ECM generates commands to correct the amount of fuel injected into the
intake manifold. When the O2S signal voltage is low (lean
air-fuel mixture), the ECM increases fuel supply. When the signal voltage is high (rich air-fuel mixture), fuel supply is reduced..
If the O2S signal wire is open, the ECM sets trouble code
13. If the O2S signal voltage is constantly low or high, trouble code 44 or 45 is set respectively. Codes 44 and 45 may also
45. Codes 44 and 45 may also
be set due to faults in the fuel injection system..
Warning.
The O2S has a permanently attached wire with a connector at the end. Do not
disconnect the wire from the O2S. Damage to the connector or wire will result in sensor failure.
sensor..
Handle the O2S with care. There must be no grease, dust, etc. on the electrical connector or in the air access slot. Do not use any solvents to clean the sensor. Avoid
dropping the O2S and rough handling.

Remove or disconnect.

TIGHTENING TORQUE 41 N·m
Warning.
Removal of the O2S may be difficult if the engine temperature is below 48° C.
Applying excessive torque may damage the threaded hole in the exhaust manifold or the exhaust pipe..
PROCEDURE.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Electrical connector..
3. Carefully unscrew the O2S..
Warning.
The O2S threads are coated with a special anti-seize compound consisting of a liquid graphite base and filler in the form of small glass beads. During
engine operation the graphite base burns off, but the glass beads remain and make it easier to unscrew the O2S. New O2S or sensors supplied as
spare parts already have this anti-seize coating. If a removed O2S is reinstalled for any reason, it is necessary to
apply anti-seize compound to the threads..
Installation
PROCEDURE.
1. Apply anti-seize compound P/N 5613695 or equivalent to the threads..
2. Screw the O2S into the hole. Tighten the O2S to torque 41 N·m..
4. Carefully unscrew the ECT sensor..
