Useful Tips for Extending Battery Life
To prevent rapid battery discharge and extend its service life, observe the following precautions:
- When parking the vehicle, make sure that the doors, tailgate and hatches are securely closed to prevent the interior lights from remaining on;
- Switch off the interior lights: the vehicle is in any case equipped with an automatic interior light switch-off system;
- With the engine off, do not leave electrical devices switched on for too long (e.g. car radio, hazard warning lights, etc.);
- Before working on the electrical system, disconnect the negative battery cable;
- The terminals must always be securely tightened.
In addition, the possibility of the battery freezing increases (this can happen at as little as -10°C). If the vehicle will be out of use for an extended period, see the "Extended Vehicle Storage" section in the "Starting and Driving" chapter.
If you want electrical accessories installed after purchasing the vehicle that require a constant power supply (alarm system, etc.), or accessories that draw current, contact the Fiat Service Network. Its trained technicians can not only recommend the most suitable Lineaccessori Fiat accessory range, but also check whether the total current draw of the electrical system can handle the additional load or whether a higher-capacity battery must be considered.
In fact, some of these devices continue to draw current even when the engine is off, gradually discharging the battery.
