Installing a child seat with the seat belts

~2min read

Universal child seats that are installed using only the seat belts are approved under standard ECE R44 and are divided into different weight groups.

WARNING The illustrations are for installation guidance only. Install the child seat strictly in accordance with the instructions supplied with it.

WARNING After a significant road accident, it is recommended to replace both the child seat and the seat belt to which it was secured.

Group 0 and 0+

Children up to 13 kg must be transported facing rearwards in a seat of the type shown in fig. 67, which supports the head and does not place stress on the neck in the event of sudden deceleration.

The child seat is secured by the vehicle's seat belts as shown in fig. 67, and in turn must restrain the child with its own built-in harness.

Group 1: From 9 to 18 kg, children can be transported facing forwards, fig. 68.

Group 2: Children from 15 to 25 kg can be restrained directly by the vehicle's seat belts, fig. 69.

In this case, the child seats serve only to position the child correctly with respect to the seat belts, so that the diagonal section of the seat belt lies across the chest and not the neck, and the lap section lies across the pelvis and not the abdomen of the child.

Group 3

For children from 22 to 36 kg, special booster cushions are available that allow the seat belt to be routed correctly.

Fig. 70 shows an example of correct positioning of the child on the rear seat.

Children over 1.50 m tall wear the seat belts like adults. 67 F1D0055
