Seat belt pretensioners

The vehicle is equipped with pretensioners for the front seat belts which, in the event of a severe frontal collision, retract the belt webbing by a few centimetres, thus ensuring that the belt fits snugly against the occupant's body before the restraint action begins. Activation of the seat belt pretensioners is indicated by locking of the retractor; the belt webbing does not extend further, even when pulled.

When the pretensioners are triggered, a certain amount of smoke is released. This smoke is not harmful and is not a sign of fire.

If, as a result of unforeseen events (e.g. flood, storm, etc.), the device has been submerged in water and/or mud, contact an authorised Fiat dealer to have it replaced.

WARNING To ensure maximum protection from the pretensioner, adjust the seat belt webbing so that it fits snugly against the chest and hips.

To increase occupant protection in a collision, the front and rear seat belt retractors (for versions/markets where provided) are fitted with devices that allow the force exerted by the belt on the chest and shoulders to be appropriately adjusted during restraint in a frontal collision.
