Seat belt maintenance

To use the seat belts correctly, strictly observe the following warnings:

• always use belts with fully extended, untwisted webbing; make sure the webbing extends freely without snagging;
• after a collision, the seat belt must be replaced, even if it appears to be undamaged.

  The belt must also be replaced if the seat belt pretensioner has been activated. Also replace the seat belt if it shows signs of wear or cutting.

• To clean the seat belts, wash them by hand with water and a neutral soap, rinse, and leave them to dry in the shade.

  Do not use strong bleaching or dyeing detergents or any chemical substances that could weaken the belt fibres.

  Avoid getting the seat belt retractors wet: they will function correctly only if water has not entered them.

CAUTION

75) The seat belt pretensioner is a single-use device. After the pretensioner has been activated, contact an authorised Fiat dealer to have it replaced.

76) For maximum protection, set the seat backrest to the correct position, sit back firmly against it, and fasten the seat belt so that it fits snugly against the chest and hips.

Always fasten seat belts, both on the front and rear seats! Travelling without fastened belts increases the risk of serious injury or death in a collision.

77) It is strictly forbidden to dismantle or tamper with seat belt components and pretensioners. Any such work must be carried out only by authorised and qualified personnel. Always contact an authorised Fiat dealer.

78) If a seat belt has been subjected to a heavy load, for example in an accident, it must be completely replaced together with its anchorages, mounting bolts and pretensioner; even if it appears undamaged, its strength may have been compromised.

CAUTION

26) Work that causes impacts, vibration or localised heating (above 100°C for a maximum of 6 hours) in the area of the pretensioner may damage it or trigger it. If work on this type of component is necessary, contact an authorised Fiat dealer.
