Fiat CODE system

~1min read

This is an electronic engine immobiliser system that increases protection against vehicle theft. It is activated automatically when the key is removed from the ignition switch.

OPERATION

Each time the engine is started, after the key is turned to MAR, the Fiat CODE control unit sends a recognition code to the engine control unit to deactivate the immobiliser for individual functions.

The recognition code is sent only if the Fiat CODE control unit recognises the code transmitted by the key.

When the key is turned to STOP, the Fiat CODE system disables the engine control unit functions. If the code is not recognised correctly when starting the engine, the warning lamp will light up in the instrument cluster. In this case
turn the key to STOP, then to MAR. If the immobiliser remains active, try starting the engine with another key. If this also does not start the engine, contact a Fiat Authorised Service Centre (ASO).

If the warning lamp
lights up, the system is performing self-diagnosis (e.g. due to a voltage drop). If the fault persists, contact a Fiat Authorised Service Centre (ASO).
